Beelitz Military Hospital - also known as Beelitz-Heilstätten - is a very large hospital complex consisting of about 60 buildings. It was built in the 19th century and operated as a sanatorium. At the beginning of World War I the complex became a military hospital for the Germany army until 1945 when it was occupied by Soviet forces. It remained occupied by the Soviets up until in 1995.

After the Soviet withdrawal some buildings were used and are still in use as research centers or care centers for victims of the Parkinson disease. But many sections of the former hospital - including the surgery and the psychiatric ward - are left abandoned. The hospital has figured the set for the 2002 film “The Pianist”.
